Summary

Please join us for a leisurely fall afternoon's visit to this State of CT historic property.  Topsmead is an English Tudor style house built in 1925 by Miss Edith Morton Chase (heir to the Chase Brass & Copper fortune of Waterbury) and remains a precious piece of a past era with fine craftsmanship and understated wealth evident throughout the former summer estate.  The house is open for free guided tours from 12-4PM.  Before and/or after a tour we'll explore the 2-3 miles of trails on the grounds of the house.  If it's a nice day, please bring your lunch with you and we'll plan to picnic on the grounds.  For more information about the property, please see the CT DEEP website: http://www.ct.gov/deep/cwp/view.asp?a=2716&q=325076&deepNav_GID=1650%20.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

From Route 8: take Exit 42. Go west on Route 118 for 2.0 miles. Turn left onto Clark Road to the stop sign. Take a right at the stop sign then the first left onto Buell Road. The first right off Buell is the entrance to Topsmead.

From Litchfield Center: take Route 118 east for 1.5 miles. Take a right onto East Litchfield Road. Take the first right onto Buell Road. Topsmead will be the first road on the right.

There's a good map on the website of the grounds and access roads to the property.  We'll meet in the designated parking lot off Chase Road.
